Why the disagreement disappears
Retrieval pulls the passages that match your question. When several sources say something similar and one says the opposite, the similar ones dominate the context by weight of repetition. The model writes from what is in front of it, so it writes the majority view. The outlier is in there somewhere, but it gets outvoted, and nothing in the process flags that a vote happened.

For a settled question, the consensus is what you want. For anything you are actually researching, the disagreement is often the useful part.
If ninety papers describe a symptom the same way and one describes it differently, and that one turns out to matter, an answer that smoothed it into the average has cost you the thing you were looking for. The same holds for a market you are sizing, or a claim two experts read in opposite directions. The tension between the sources is information. How to keep the conflict visible
