The useful part is how it fails. Most people find that one or two tools return things fast and the rest are guesswork. That tells you which one to consolidate into, without having to settle it as a matter of principle first.
Why speed is the right measure
Capture is easy and every tool does it well, so it is a poor way to compare tools. The part that compounds is retrieval: the right thing coming back when you need it. If getting something back reliably takes minutes, you stop reaching for it, and a note you never reach for is the same as one you never wrote.
